Conservation strategy

Council completed its Conservation Strategy in September 2004. The strategy sets out what Council is doing to protect the district's natural heritage and biodiversity.

The central messages are:

  • Council will lead by example by protecting and restoring biodiversity on its reserves
  • Council will seek to foster a positive relationship with private landowners and community groups by:
    • promoting a conservation ethic through consultation, education, recognition and reward
    • recognising the rights and needs of people
    • providing information and incentives to encourage and assist landowners and community groups to protect and restore areas
  • View the Conservation Strategy 2004

Please note:  The District Plan regulatory regime presented in this strategy has been amended in response to submissions on the District Plan. Refer to the District Plan for the current regulatory regime.
