Council completed its Conservation Strategy in September 2004. The strategy sets out what Council is doing to protect the district's natural heritage and biodiversity.
The central messages are:
- Council will lead by example by protecting and restoring biodiversity on its reserves
- Council will seek to foster a positive relationship with private landowners and community groups by:
- promoting a conservation ethic through consultation, education, recognition and reward
- recognising the rights and needs of people
- providing information and incentives to encourage and assist landowners and community groups to protect and restore areas
