Waikato District Council has completed an unscheduled discharge of treated wastewater through the Raglan harbour wastewater outfall pipe.
Council was forced due to the heavy rain, to discharge treated wastewater outside the normal daily tidal periods to reduce the risk of the ponds at the Raglan Wastewater Treatment Plant overtopping.
The discharge began at 5pm on Tuesday 22 June and was completed at 1.30pm on Monday 28 June. Approximately 25,000m3 was discharged over the six days.
This year (1 July 2009 – 30 June 2010) it has been necessary for Council to discharge outside the normal consented times on 12 days of the available 20 days permitted.
