Plans revealed for new Te Kauwhata Library

Plans for a new purpose-built library for Te Kauwhata were released today.

The new library, to be built on the corner of Main and Mahi Roads, will include a community meeting room, designated areas for young children and teenagers, and a spacious library area all radiating from a central hub.

Waikato District Council General Manager Water and Facilities Richard Bax said planning for the new library had been brought forward from 2012 after Council was advised late last year that the building owner intends to redevelop the site and the lease for the current library would expire in March 2011.

“It’s exciting for Te Kauwhata that this library is built especially to serve its users’ needs and we hope those of townspeople for years to come,” he said.

“If the feedback from the groups we’ve presented the plans to is anything to go by, this facility will be a welcome asset to the Te Kauwhata community.”

Architectural consultants, Opus International Ltd, have designed the new library with ability to easily expand it should the need arise in future years.

The corner site will be landscaped and site plans show an attractive entrance and ample car parking. It is anticipated the meeting room with its separate access and tea-making facilities will be well-utilised by the community.

Plans can be viewed on Council’s website www.waikatodistrict.co.nz and will be on display at the Te Kauwhata Library on Main Road.
