Water supply issues for Tauwhare Eureka area
Water supply to residents in the Tauwhare/Eureka area has been reduced and there will be no water at times for up to three days from 11am today.
Because of a suspected contaminant in the Eureka reservoir, the tank must be drained, cleaned and refilled, and the water tested before services are resumed. The contaminant is a small object and has not yet been identified.
General manager water and facilities, Richard Bax says the time required to restore the water supply is affected by the 24-hour requirement for water testing.
“Once we drain the reservoir, clean it and refill it we must have the water tested. Therefore we’ve had to be conservative with the time allowable to restore water services and we hope to do this sooner rather than later,” he said.
“In the meantime, we ask that affected residents boil their drinking water and minimise their water use.”
This is a recent occurrence as on 21 November the water supplied from the Eureka reservoir was tested. No harmful bacteria were detected and it was of good quality.
“Residents in the affected areas who are on council supply, will have reduced supply during the next three days and in some cases there will be no water at times. However, we are working as quickly as possible to restore normal services,” said Mr Bax.
