Waikato District Council is the local government authority for the Waikato district.

There are more than 260 full-time staff working for Council. The Chief Executive, employed by the Mayor and Councillors, is part of an Executive team of seven.
Areas of Waikato District Council’s activities include:
- Maintenance and upgrades of the district’s roading network
- Management of water, wastewater, storm water, and waste minimisation
- Provision of reserves, recreation facilities, libraries, halls, and community centres
- Building and resource consents
- Noise and animal control
- Inspection and licensing of premises
- Civil defence
