Community outcomes

Choosing Futures was a consultation programme run by Waikato District Council in 2004/2005 to ask residents what kind of district they wanted to be living in throughout future years.

Consultation

There were two parts to the consultation:

  • Round one was in November 2004 and with the information obtained from road shows, telephone surveys, and consultation newsletters, eight Community Outcomes were drafted by Council.
  • Round two began in April 2005 when a follow-up consultation newsletter was sent out to the community containing the eight draft Community Outcomes - asking recipients to confirm and prioritise them.

Submissions to this process closed in May 2005 and Council received 263 responses.

Ninth Outcome

A number of respondents proposed that the health, crime and safety aspects, within the Well Waikato Community Outcome, be separated into two distinct Community Outcomes. Council took this request on board and now, with the additional outcome, Safe Waikato, we have a total of nine Community Outcomes.
