I first joined Waikato District Council in September 2009 while completing my Diploma in Civil Engineering. The council allowed me to study full-time and work part-time until I had completed my papers in 2009. Throughout 2010 I worked full time however continued to work towards completing my Diploma. I joined the team as an assistant engineer in the design unit of the roading & projects team however have recently been promoted as of July 2011 to the role of project engineer.
In my role, I work through the process of designing roading, water and facilities projects. Once we complete the designs we complete tender's for the construction aspect of the project and award the project to a contractor to complete this work on behalf of the council.
The best aspect about my job is the people I work with including contractors, the community and our staff.
