The five revised community outcomes are:
Accessible Waikato
This outcome relates to the community's access to infrastructure, transport and technology, and how it meets its needs. This includes:
- Essential services like power and telecommunications are accessible.
- The district is easy to get around and the road network is well maintained.
- Infrastructure is developed at a rate to keep pace with growth and demand.
- The strategic importance of the Waikato expressway is recognised and occurs with priority.
- Improved opportunities for the use of public transport are provided.*
Sustainable Waikato
This outcome is about the effective management of growth and the protection and development of natural resources for future generations, including ensuring:
- Controls are in place to ensure subdivision is not greatly impacting on the rural nature of the district.
- Growth is not taking place to the detriment of the natural environment.
- Growth is encouraged at a rate and in locations beneficial to the district.
- The district's natural assets, landforms and waterways are protected.
- Council supports environmental initiatives.
- Animal and plant pests in the district are managed.
- Recycling and waste management initiatives are enhanced and supported.
- Living environments are attractive, well designed and safe.*
Thriving Waikato
This outcome relates to a district that prides itself on economic excellence, where heritage and culture are protected and celebrated. The elements include:
- Council's processes aid the establishment of new businesses and industry.
- The contribution of tourism to the district is acknowledged and enhanced through local and regional initiatives.
- Protection and preservation of heritage sites, buildings and collections is encouraged.
- All town centres are developed to their potential and maintained.*
- The district encourages a wide range of sporting, cultural and community activities and events.*
Healthy Waikato
The theme of this outcome is a district with services and activities that promote a healthy community. This includes:
- Council’s potable water supplies conform to established public health standards.
- Wastewater systems support and promote safe and sanitary conditions.
- Recreation and leisure facilities are maintained and enhanced to ensure the community has access to quality facilities, and opportunities for developing new facilities are investigated.
- An ongoing commitment to promoting community involvement in sporting and leisure activities.
- Community education is supported through local schools and networks.
- The district's elderly, young and disabled citizens are valued and cared for.*
Safe Waikato
This outcome relates to people feeling safe and supported within their communities. This includes:
- Residents feeling safe in their community.
- Appropriate lighting is provided for parks, reserves, roads and public places.
- Infrastructure projects, such as roading works, take account of public safety.
- Emergency management structures are in place to deal with potential disasters and incidents.
