Taupiri Rugby Football Club can continue fostering talent in the community thanks to funding from Waikato District Council’s Wellbeing Trust Fund.
The Trust considers funding each year and provides much-needed money for capital projects throughout the Waikato district. Applicants must be able to demonstrate broad community support for the project.
Taupiri Rugby Football Club applied to the Wellbeing Trust Fund this year and received $9,000 to install three new heating units. In the past the Trust has supported the club by granting $20,000 towards the upgrade of the carpark in 2014 and $7,500 to upgrade the amenities block in 2017.
Waikato District Council Community Development Advisor Lianne Van Den Bemd says the Wellbeing Trust Fund, which is managed by Council, is proud to do its bit in the community. “Community groups like the Taupiri Rugby Football Club do so much for the Waikato district. Being able to support them financially means we’re working towards Council’s vision of creating liveable, thriving and connected communities.”
Taupiri Rugby Football Club’s current heaters are well over 40 years old. Upgrading them will give the club the opportunity to extend the capacity of the club rooms during the colder months to the community for a variety of events.
“The purpose of our club is to foster, encourage and support amateur rugby in Taupiri. Providing a facility that assists and promotes active involvement in sports at an affordable level in a fair play sporting environment provides massive health benefits to families and creates cohesiveness within the community,” Taupiri Rugby Football Club chairperson Lance McLaggan says.
