Mayoral Disaster Relief Fund

How to apply for the Mayoral Disaster Relief Fund

Update 10 July 2023:

The Mayoral Disaster Relief Fund remains open, however eligibility criteria has now been updated to include:

Applicants must either:

  • Own or usually reside in a property that is currently being managed using the Rapid Building Assessment System in the Waikato District (meaning your property currently has a white, yellow, or red sticker as an outcome of Cyclone Gabrielle); or
  • Own or reside in a property that was previously managed using the Rapid Building Assessment System in the Waikato District (meaning your property previously had a white, yellow, or red sticker as an outcome of Cyclone Gabrielle).

We encourage those who meet the above criteria to apply for funding as soon as possible. If you require assistance to complete the form, or have any questions, please call Anisha on 027 296 0689.

The Mayoral Disaster Relief Fund opened in late February to support Waikato District Council residents, ratepayers or small business owners, and not-for-profit organisations who suffered financial hardship because of damages caused by Cyclone Gabrielle.

The Fund could be used to provide financial support for:

  • Cleaning debris from properties where people are uninsured or underinsured
  • Supporting individuals/families faced with hardships as a result of the emergency
  • Assisting small businesses and farmers impacted by the cyclone
  • Assisting people with basic needs, household goods and personal items where the individual/family is uninsured or underinsured

The fund provides one-off assistance for extraordinary circumstances, where a real need can be shown.

Once closed, all applications will be assessed, and available funds will be allocated proportionately to applicants that meet the criteria. The amount granted will depend on the circumstances of the applicant.
