Council currently maintains over 670 individual grass verges throughout the Waikato district, excluding the former Franklin District, at a cost of over $103,000 per year. Council has been maintaining these grass verges for historical reasons. Without a formal process, the costs of continuing this practice were highly likely to increase.

At the September meeting of Council, the Grass Verge Policy was adopted. It will come into effect on 1 October, 2016.

Council developed the policy to consistently manage the maintenance of grass verges in our district.
