Council has adopted this bylaw which will come into force on 17 October 2016.

Consultation Summary

The proposed bylaw was notified for public consultation on 27 April 2016 with submissions closing on 27 May 2016.

In total, 90 submissions were received on the proposed bylaw, with 29 submitters heard. Submitters commented on a variety of issues associated with the proposed bylaw, including concerns about permitted areas in Raglan in regards to safety, noise, access to the area by emergency personnel, and rubbish. As a result of the submissions minor changes to the clauses in the bylaw were made.


A hearing was held on 6 July in the Council Chambers in Ngaruawahia. The Policy and Regulatory Committee met again on 12 July to consider and make decisions on submissions.


On 12 September 2016 Council adopted the Freedom Camping Bylaw 2016.
