Waikato District Council believes education is the key to ensuring community safety, while allowing people to enjoy the benefits of owning a dog.
The Animal Control team offers free of charge presentations on our animal control functions, caring for and controlling dogs, and bite prevention and safety.
Our presentations can be specifically designed for your needs and time allowance. We have given presentations to:
- Pre-schools
- Kindergartens
- Primary school groups

- Community workers
- Dog training classes
and are also available to provide information at dog and stock related public events and expos.
Our dog safety presentations to children utilise education material designed and distributed by the Department of Internal Affairs. We also provide booklets for both children and their parents which were created by the University of Waikato in 2008. These booklets are currently available free of charge in all our area offices and libraries.
Online links to both Department of Internal Affairs and the University of Waikato dog safety information can be found on our Animal Control websites page.
Website links to dog obedience and agility clubs are also available on our Animal Control websites page.
