The Waikato District Council provides a weekly refuse and recycling collection service to over 15,000 houses in the district, as well as a yearly inorganic rubbish collection. Each area has a set collection day, and each household is allowed a maximum of two bags of rubbish.
Recycling must be put in a green recycling bin provided by Council. Not all households in the district receive a refuse and recycling service, due to the cost to service remote areas. The Waikato district has recycling depots that accept recyclable materials at no cost to you. The cost of providing a weekly refuse/recycle service is charged through your rates.
To find out if you get the refuse and recycling service please call your local Council office.

Inorganic Collection
Every November the Waikato District Council provides an inorganic rubbish collection. Households can put out a trailer load of inorganic rubbish. Please note only houses that get the refuse/recycle collection, get the inorganic collection. The collection runs for 5 weeks. Raglan does not have an inorganic collection.
Inorganic refuse includes rubbish such as:
- Furniture
- Televisions
- Computers
- Bikes
- Fridges, etc
A leaflet will be distributed throughout the community prior to the collection, providing collection dates and details.
