We’ve been out and about in communities for the last three weeks, asking for feedback on our proposed Long Term Plan (LTP) – the plan that helps shape how our district will grow and develop over the next nine years. It sets out what we’re planning to invest in, like roads, water services, rubbish and recycling, parks and community spaces, and how our voices are powerful. This is your chance to shape the future of Waikato district.
But the Long Term Plan (LTP) isn’t just a document - it’s a conversation. And that’s where you come in.
Making a submission is one of the most powerful ways you can have your say and use your democratic voice. Whether you’re passionate about something, want to see change, or even just agree with what we’re proposing – your voice matters. You don’t need to write long messages or be an expert. A few words are enough. What’s important is that we hear from our community.
What many people may not realise is that we make submissions too. On your behalf, we speak up on regional and national issues like emergency management, water reform or environmental rules. We bring the voice of our district into the rooms where big decisions are being made. We’re able to do that well because we know what matters to you, and we back that up with expert knowledge from our team at Council.
It’s all connected. When you speak, we listen – and we carry that voice into every space where decisions about the future of our district are being made.
So, if you haven’t made a submission yet, now is the time. You have until Sunday 11 May to give your feedback. If you don’t like what is being proposed, tell us. If you support it, tell us that too. Every submission helps us understand where the community stands.
Visit our website, attend one of our events, or just pick up the phone – there are many ways to have your say and be part of the conversation. Let’s work together to shape a future we can all be proud of.
Ngaa mihi and kind regards
Mayor Jacqui
