New roading era starts today

Today marks a new era in how we deliver roading and transport services across our district.

All core transport functions have been brought together into a unified in-house team at Waikato District Council’s head office.

This new structure strengthens alignment between strategy and operations, improves coordination across departments, and gives Council greater oversight of network activity and future capability.

Under the new model, our roading and lighting delivery responsibilities move to new providers from today:

  • Roading services are delivered by our contract partners Higgins (northern contract) and Fulton Hogan (southern contract)
  • Lighting services throughout the district will be provided by Horizons and Odyssey
  • Our in-house transport team is fully set up and ready to manage all incoming service requests

The new model is designed to deliver better value for money, more flexibility to meet changing needs into the future, and smarter, more efficient planning and delivery.

Councillors, staff and representatives from contractors celebrated the start of the new era at an informal gathering in Council's Ngaaruawaahia office on Monday.

Meanwhile, customers can expect continued services and should keep reporting any concerns via the Antenno app, using the Report It button on our website or by calling 0800 492 452.
