Public toilets open in Whatawhata

Whatawhata toilets

New public toilets have opened at the Whatawhata Recreation Reserve, providing a much-needed facility for the local community and visitors.

Until now, there hasn’t been a public toilet in the village, so this new addition will make a real difference for locals, travellers, and those enjoying the reserve.

Rather than building from scratch, the project team upcycled a decommissioned toilet unit, giving it a new life through retrofitting and refurbishment. The result is a modern, low-maintenance facility that meets accessibility standards and supports Council’s sustainability goals.

The toilet is built on a reinforced concrete base with a strong steel frame, designed for durability and easy maintenance. Simplified fittings have replaced complex systems, making it more reliable for everyday use.

This project was funded through your rates that help keep our communities moving, connected, and thriving. Every dollar you pay helps to support local roads, water, waste, libraries, parks, and facilities like this one.
