Huntly pool closed for a few weeks

The Huntly Aquatic Centre will be closed for a few weeks while we re-paint the swimming lanes, which have blurred. Changes will also be made to the toddler pool, to stop it being slippery.

The work is being done at this time while the paint is still under warranty and the pool isn’t as busy. Less people use the indoor pool at this time of the year.

The last day for swimming will be Sunday 21 December. The pool will be open again Monday 12 January.

  • Didn’t you paint it earlier this year?
The pool was painted earlier this year but unfortunately there were problems with the line masking and the paint is blurred. If we re-paint it now the cost will be covered by the work warranty. We had feedback from the community about the look of the lines, so we want to get it right.

  • Is there any risk to people who have used the pool?
No, there is no risk to public health or safety.

  • Why didn’t you tell us about the closure earlier?
We wanted to schedule this work at a time that would have minimal impact on users of our facility. It has taken a bit of time to book the contractors and lock in dates. We apologise for the inconvenience.

  • Why will it take so long to do this work?
It takes a few days for the pool to empty and the pool has to be completely dry before we can start painting. The paint also takes a while to dry and set.

  • Why are you doing this work now, at this time of the year?
We’re doing it now because less people use the pool at this time of the year. A lot of people go away over this time, or they choose to swim somewhere outside. If we do it now the cost of the work will be covered by the paint warranty. We also want to make sure we can re-open in time for our holiday swim programme, which starts on 12 January.

  • Will I have to pay my membership during that time?
Fitness memberships will be automatically placed on suspension. No action required.
Learn to Swim customers can choose to swim at the Ngaruawahia pool, to keep their place on the holiday programme. If you decide not to keep your membership active over the summer period, parents will need to suspend the membership on the Active World portal.

  • Can I still use the gym?
Unfortunately you can’t use the gym over this time because we’ll have workers on site, and there will be noise, dust and paint fumes. To keep you safe, we will close the entire facility.
