Morrinsville Road works in Hamilton – what Waikato district residents need to know

Upcoming road works on Morrinsville Road in Hamilton will affect some travel routes used by Waikato district communities.

The works are planned and delivered by Hamilton City Council and are located within Hamilton City boundaries. Morrinsville Road is a key route for people travelling between Waikato district, Hamilton, and surrounding areas.

What’s happening
From Monday 16 February 2026, construction will begin on a new roundabout at the intersection of Morrinsville Road, Silverdale Road, and Matangi Road.

The works are expected to run until late May/early June 2026, weather dependent.

Road closures and detours
During construction:

  • Morrinsville Road will be closed between East Ridge Grove and Jansen Park
  • Silverdale Road and Matangi Road will be closed at their intersections with Morrinsville Road
  • Pedestrian and cycling access will remain available
