Waikato District Council, through Fulton Hogan, will be carrying out road resurfacing works on Great South Road in Ngaaruawaahia from Sunday 22 March to Thursday 26 March 2026 (weather dependent).
The work will take place between the Princess Street/Newcastle Street intersection and River Road, and includes small sections of Old Taupiri Road and Galbraith Street.
What’s happening
The works involve resurfacing sections of the road to help extend its life and improve safety for all users.
What this means for you
Work will be completed overnight between 7pm and 6am, and will require temporary full road closures during these hours. Pedestrian footpath access will be maintained at all times.
- Resident access will be maintained where possible
- Rubbish collection will continue as normal
- You may notice increased noise, vibration and construction activity overnight
- Jesmond Street, Market Street, Waingaro Road, Regent Street, Old Taupiri Road and Galbraith Street will be closed at their intersections with Great South Road between 7pm and 6am
All affected roads will reopen outside of these hours
Why the road needs to be closed
Temporary road closures are needed to safely operate heavy machinery and complete the work efficiently. Working under a full closure helps reduce overall disruption and improves safety for residents, road users and crews.
