The Newstead Walkway is currently closed between Morrinsville Road and Vaile Road due to safety concerns with both footbridge structures.
Recent assessments have found damage to the bridges, including erosion and weather-related impacts, which means they are no longer safe for public use.
The footbridge at the Morrinsville Road end will be fully replaced. The footbridge at the Vaile Road end is being assessed by a structural engineer to determine the most appropriate repair.
Construction works are expected to begin next week and be completed by late May (weather dependent). The walkway will remain closed until the new bridge is in place.
