Water conservation request for Te Kauwhata customers

Customers in the Te Kauwhata area are being asked to conserve water and use it for essential purposes only over the coming days while work continues at the Te Kauwhata Water Treatment Plant.

Following planned maintenance, the plant is currently operating at reduced capacity while equipment is brought back online. Water supply remains available, however reservoir levels are lower than normal and demand is currently higher than production.

Council and Waikato Watercare are working to restore normal operations as quickly as possible. Current advice is that equipment may return to service later today or tomorrow, although it may take several days for reservoir levels and operations to fully recover.

Customers can help by:

  • keeping showers short
  • delaying non-essential washing
  • avoiding outdoor water use where possible
  • checking for and fixing leaks
