Light flushing, camera, action!

We’ve recently completed CCTV camera investigation on 8km of our stormwater pipes across parts of the district.
Yep, we put a camera down the pipes to check their condition and where blockages might be, so we can prioritise future maintenance and upgrades.

With more than 200km of stormwater network pipes across the district, we can’t do it all at once! This time round we focused on parts of Huntly, Ngaaruawaahia, Port Waikato, Raglan, Te Kauwhata, Tuakau and Meremere.

Many of these stormwater pipes are very old, and they accumulate sediment and debris over time, so before we put the camera down, we lightly flush the pipes to clean them.

We removed more than four tonnes of sediment from Huntly stormwater pipes!

From 1 July, IAWAI, the new publicly owned water company formed by Waikato District and Hamilton City councils and working in partnership with Waikato-Tainui, will be responsible for delivering your drinking water and wastewater services. Stormwater services will remain council-owned, operating under contract.

IAWAI water charges will be itemised separately alongside your council rates notices and billing, and you will still get water meter bills twice a year.
