Everything we do relies on water. From brushing our teeth, running factories, having a swim, flushing the toilet, or making a cuppa – water is at the heart of daily life.
From today, IAWAI, the new publicly owned water company formed by Waikato District and Hamilton City councils and working in partnership with Waikato-Tainui, will be responsible for delivering our drinking water and wastewater services.
Stormwater services will remain council-owned, operating under contract.
What does this mean for you? For now, you won’t see a lot of change. You will continue to receive the same water services.
- You will see two separately itemised IAWAI charges for water and wastewater along with your rates invoice
- You’ll still get water meter bills twice a year
- You can continue to pay for water using the same payment options
- If you have any water-related issues, please contact council.
