Our road slip repair programme has reached 45 per cent completion, just over two months after physical works began.
The programme is repairing more than 80 sites damaged by Cyclone Gabrielle and other recent severe weather events.
Repairs have now been completed at:
Pinnacles Hill Road, Pukekawa
Wairamarama-Onewhero Road, Onewhero
Highway 22, Naike
Daff Road, Port Waikato

Repairs planned to begin in August include sites on:
Waikaretu Valley Road, Woodleigh
Port Waikato-Waikaretu Road, Port Waikato
Waikaretu - Wairamarama Road, Glen Murray
Bothwell Road (formally Loop Road), Glen Murray
Kawhia Road, Makomako
Wilton Collieries Road, Glen Massey
Work varies by location and may include slip repairs, road reinstatement, culvert works, drainage improvements, and slope stabilisation. These repairs will restore damaged roads and reduce the risk of further damage during future severe weather.
Up to $15 million will be invested in the programme. The work is funded by NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi alongside Council’s resilience and emergency works budgets in the 2025–2034 Long Term Plan.
Local contractors, specialist suppliers, and industry partners are helping deliver the programme, supporting local jobs and businesses.
Work will continue through to June 2027, with more sites moving into construction as designs and work programmes are confirmed. Timing may change due to weather, site conditions, and contractor availability.
