The community facilities at Ngaaruawaahia’s Paterson Park have had an upgrade and now include female changing rooms for the first time.
Waikato District Council recently introduced a dedicated female changing space with showers. The existing changing facilities and toilet were also updated, lighting was upgraded and the building was given a fresh lick of paint.
Council Project manager Trevor Ranga says work was done to reconfigure the internal structure of the building so that changing rooms could be added for female teams, after requests were received from local clubs.
“A significant contribution to the project's success came from the local community, whose sweat equity and volunteer efforts helped deliver the upgrade. The completed facility will better support rugby league, rugby, touch, netball, and softball, while providing improved amenities for the wider community.”
Ngaruawahia Rugby Sports Club chair, Glynis King, says it is great news for the club.
“We appreciate that Council listened to our requests, particularly for a female gender space. We can now offer this space to our junior female members when required. Our referees will now also have a private space to use and have gauranteed hot showers with the new gas heating system in place.”
“The new roof, repainted exterior and interior has freshened up the area and is a very welcome improvement that is appreciated by all people within the club. Our club really appreciated the supply of paint by Council so we could refresh the club colours in the space used by our members.”
Waikato District Council received $100,000 from Wel Energy to support this project.
