Raglan's much-loved Papahua Pump Track at Raglan Domain is open again, following renewal works to fix long-standing cracking and ground subsidence at the popular spot.
First built in 2017, the pump track has become a firm favourite with riders of all ages, from local kids learning the basics to more experienced riders. Over the past few years recurring cracking and subsidence in the track surface meant patch repairs were no longer keeping pace with the underlying ground movement.
Waikato District Council engaged a contractor to carry out a full renewal, addressing the root cause of the problem rather than patching over it again. The works were designed as a like-for-like restoration, keeping the track's original layout, features and character, while fixing what was failing underneath.
The pump track is one of Council’s most popular recreational attractions in Raglan. It supports active, outdoor play for local families and visitors alike. Renewing it properly — rather than continuing short-term patch repairs — protects Council's investment and means the track should give the community many more years of reliable use with less ongoing maintenance.
The renewal included ground stabilisation and foundation repairs, section repairs of the perimeter curbing around the track, resurfacing of the riding surface with concrete, and new subsoil drainage and catchpits to manage stormwater.
