Application to Lease Te Kauwhata Domain

Waikato District Council has received a lease application from Te Kauwhata Scouts Club (a local branch of the Scout Association New Zealand) to lease a Council building on the Te Kauwhata Domain for their clubrooms for a term of 15 years.

Application details

Te Kauwhata Scouts Club has occupied the Council building on Te Kauwhata Domain at 33 Mahi Street, Te Kauwhata as a club room for many years. They are now applying for a lease to formalise their occupation.

As the local scout club are not a legal entity, the lease will formally be held by the Scout Association New Zealand.

The Club are seeking a 15-year term to provide longevity and security of the club room and to continue supporting youth education.

Key focus of the Club as a scout’s group is to deliver youth-focused outdoor education and activities.

Legal Description and Location

The land is legally described as Section 76 Te Kauwhata Township and comprises part of record of title 534827. The land is classified and managed as a recreation reserve under the Reserves Act 1977.

Public notification

In accordance with Section 119 of the Reserves Act 1977, Council is required to publicly notify and invites feedback from the community.

Next Steps

Following the public notification closure date, a public hearing may be held if one is requested, otherwise the submissions/objections will be submitted along with a report to the next Council Committee for a decision on the lease application.
