New look Tuakau wheelie bin tag on the way

tuakautags

Tuakau residents, we have been listening to you regarding issues with refuse tags and new tags are on their way!

The district moved to a new way of refuse collection on 1 July this year with a goal of reducing waste sent to landfill. Through the process, you have kept wheelie bins because you wanted to keep this level of service. We are committed to providing you an easy way of having your bin collected and still implement the user pays approach, but we realise it hasn’t been easy for some so far.

With the change in service earlier this year, a yellow pre-paid tag was developed so you could attach it to your wheelie bin each time you put it out for collection.

While the tag system has been accepted the design has proven troublesome in recent months due to the ease in which they can blow away or be removed before your bin is collected by the contractor.

We have heard your feedback. We have been busy developing a new-look pre-paid tag which will be similar to the adhesive luggage tags used in airports. These should be available from mid to late October everywhere you currently buy tags. You will be able to use the current tags or swap them, at no cost, out with the new tags at Council’s Tuakau office only.

While we wait for the new tags to arrive, we are recommending you tape or staple your tag to your wheelie bin. It’s also important to place your wheelie bin out by 7.30am on the morning of your collection.

We appreciate your continued support through this change and we apologise for the issues caused by the current tags.
