Council is awaiting Local Government Commission decision on proposed representation changes

Waikato District Council have been undertaking a review of how their wards are structured to ensure better representation for their communities ahead of the 2022 triennial local election.

Following a period of consultations and appeals in the latter half of 2021, the Local Government Commission held a hearing on Thursday 27 January during which they heard 10 verbal submitters appeal the final proposal.

Appealed points within the final proposal are due to be deliberated on by the Local Government Commission later this month, following which a decision will be confirmed by 11 April 2022.

Once a decision has been reached Council will provide an update via their website.
