Council invites further submissions on Proposed District Plan changes

Waikato District Council is inviting further submissions on Variation 3 to the Proposed District Plan.

Variation 3 would enable an increase in housing density and is only applicable in Ngaaruawaahia, Huntly, Tuakau and Pookeno.

Proposed changes follow the mandatory directive set out by the Central Government under the Resource Management (Enabling Housing Supply and Other Matters) Amendment Act 2021.

A total of 115 submissions were received during the initial period, which closed on Friday 28 October 2022.

It is important to note that further submissions can only be in support of, or opposition to, original submissions and can be made only by people who meet specific criteria.

The specific criteria include anyone who has an interest in the proposal greater than the general public, or Council itself.

“Proposed changes will allow up to three homes, up to three storeys high to be built on a property without the need for resource consent in four of our main towns.” says Chief Executive Gavin Ion.

“We’d like to thank everyone who made a submission during the initial period and encourage those applicable to ensure that their voice on the matter is heard loud and clear – whether they agree or not.”

Council have completed summarising original submissions and a summary will be available from Monday 5 December.

Anyone who lodges a further submission must, within five working days, serve a copy of it on the person who made the original submission.

Submission forms can be accessed via the Council website or at any Council office or library from Monday 5 December 2022.

All further submissions must be received no later than 5pm, Monday 19 December 2022 to one of the following addresses:
