Waikato District Council attended the official opening of Life Flight’s new aeromedical base at Hamilton Airport.
Life Flight has been operating from Hamilton since 2024, but this new purpose-built base strengthens emergency health care across the upper North Island.
From here, air ambulance planes fly critically ill and injured patients to specialist hospitals around the country. For rural communities, that can mean reaching life-saving treatment in minutes instead of hours.
Waikato District Councillor Crystal Beavis attended the opening alongside Health Minister Simeon Brown, recognising the importance of partnership between central government, local government, community organisations and corporate partners.
Waikato District Council is a shareholder in Hamilton Airport because it is critical regional infrastructure. While the airport supports jobs, business and connectivity, it also enables essential services such as aeromedical transfers and emergency response.
Investing in infrastructure like this is about more than travel. It’s about resilience, access to care, and looking after our communities when it matters most.
