Tauwhare Playground officially opens

Children playing on new playground

The new Tauwhare Playground is now officially open, with the community coming together on Thursday to celebrate the completion of the project.

We joined Te Iti o Hauā (Tauwhare) Marae, local councillors, kaimahi, funding partners and local whaanau for a special whakatau and community celebration to mark the occasion.

Located beside Te Iti o Hauā (Tauwhare) Marae, the playground includes new modern play equipment and a basket swing, creating a welcoming space for tamariki and whaanau to enjoy.

Speeches were shared by Te Iti o Hauā (Tauwhare) Marae Chair Lance Rapana and Waikato District Mayor Aksel acknowledging the collaboration and community support behind the project.

The celebration highlighted the strong sense of kaitiakitanga shown by the marae for the reserve and surrounding area. While the playground remains a public reserve, it sits alongside the marae and holds an important place within the local community.

The Tauwhare Playground is part of Council’s wider programme of playground renewals happening across the Waikato district.

Further improvements are also planned for the reserve, including upgrades to the basketball court and a new carpark jointly funded with WEL Networks.
