Got thoughts on dogs?

A small white puppy with floppy pink-lined ears and a brown nose looks curiously at the camera, standing on grass against a softly blurred wall.

We're reviewing our Dog Control Bylaw and Policy and want to hear what matters most to you — whether you're a dog owner, dog lover, dog avoider, or simply share the neighbourhood with dogs.

We're asking for feedback early in the process so we can better understand what's working well, what could be improved, and what challenges and opportunities people see before any changes are considered.

Your feedback will help us understand community priorities and shape the options we explore for managing dogs in our district.

Dog control affects everyone in our district, so the rules need to balance the needs of dog owners, non-dog owners and the wider community.

Complete the survey here: waikatodistrict.govt.nz/say-it

The survey is open from Thursday 15 October to Monday 16 November 2026.

There will be a formal consultation next year, when the community can review and provide feedback on any proposed changes.
