Gordonton Road improvements

This project is underway to improve the safety conditions on Gordonton Road.

With its rough surface and high crash rate, the road has been identified as a high-risk area. To address this issue, the selected treatment for the entire 5.4km stretch of Gordonton Road is the installation of roadside safety barriers at key locations.

This decision was made based on careful analysis using the Waka Kotahi pipeline tool, which takes into account crash data and recommends appropriate interventions from the Standard Safety Intervention Toolkit.

Our goal is to enhance the safety of this road and reduce the occurrence of accidents.

Project Update

November 2023 - The Boyd/Sainsbury intersection construction has kicked off.  Work has started on the extension of the lane to create a right turning bay.  Friction surfacing scheduled to be completed in February 2024.  Sign installation is 70% complete with wire rope barrier installation over the next 2-3 weeks.
