PR-21316 Hakanoa Footbridge
The footbridge is in very poor condition and the whole bridge requires replacement. The current bridge is:
- too narrow for maintenance vehicles
- bridge should be 2.5m wide
The stream is used by WRC boats so the height of the new bridge must allow dinghies and other small boats to pass beneath it. Drop down bollards to be installed at either end.
Project Update
June 2025 - Over the past few months, our contractors have been working off-site to source materials (which had long lead times) and construct the new bridge in their yard. On-site work is scheduled to begin at the end of June and will take approximately three weeks.
Here’s what to expect:
• Site preparation and removal of the existing bridge.
• Road closures on 1st July and 9th July to allow crane and hiab operations for removing the old bridge and installing the new one.
• Installation of the new bridge.
• Construction of the new bridge approaches.
Once the bridge is in place, Watercare will complete the surrounding planting.
We’re excited to announce that the new bridge is expected to be open to the public by the end of July.
