Futureproofing Harrisville Road Bridge and Intersection

Project objective

We’re replacing the Harrisville Road Bridge (vehicle and pedestrian) and upgrading the surrounding intersection to provide a safer, more resilient transport connection for the Tuakau community. We’ll also be working on the underground services in the area.

The bridge is an important gateway into Tuakau's town centre and supports residents, businesses, freight operators, emergency services and future growth within the district. Once complete, the new bridge will improve safety, support economic development and provide infrastructure that is better equipped to meet the needs of a growing community.

Project update

Work onsite is expected to start around mid-September, with construction starting in October and is expected to take approximately 12 months.

Traffic and access

To minimise disruption, we will be installing a temporary vehicle and pedestrian bridge while the new one is built. To ensure access and public safety, traffic management will be in place throughout the project.

Project Timeline

Please note these dates may change depending on weather conditions, ground conditions or other unforeseen circumstances.

Other works in the area

To minimise future disruption for residents, Watercare will undertake wastewater network improvements along Harrisville Road at the same time as the bridge improvement project.

Delivering these essential works together reduces the likelihood of further traffic impacts from separate construction activities later.

For any queries related to wastewater improvements please contact IAWAI at info@iawai.co.nz.

Why is the bridge being replaced?

The existing Harrisville Road Bridge has reached the end of its serviceable life.

Following structural investigations, it was identified that the bridge requires replacement to ensure it continues to safely support the community and the increasing demands placed on the transport network.

Replacing the bridge now will:

  • Improve safety for all road users.
  • Increase the resilience of an important transport route.
  • Support future residential and commercial growth.
  • Improve access for freight and commercial operators.
  • Provide reliable infrastructure for future generations.
