Pookeno Road Resilience

The bridge Road. to Munro resilience project is a vital infrastructure upgrade aimed at enhancing the resilience and functionality of the road network. The decision to upgrade this road to handle the increasing traffic volumes due to population growth and development in the area is due to congestion, leading to delays, reduced efficiency, and safety concerns. Also, this road posed challenges for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists. The upgrade aims to provide improved connectivity, reduce travel times, enhance road safety, and accommodate future development and population increases.

Project Update

July 2024 - Draft road design is underway; this upgrade will see the road higher than it is currently with final heights dependent on the new Pokeno Road bridge.  Designs and consenting will be complete by late 2024 and due to timings for the Munro Road upgrade, construction of the road and bridge will be Summer 2025/2026.
