Pookeno Road Resilience - Road Upgrade from Bridge to Munro Road design
Project objective
The bridge Road. to Munro resilience project is a vital infrastructure upgrade with the Pokeno Structure Plan, aimed at enhancing the resilience and functionality of the road network. The decision to upgrade this road to handle the increasing traffic volumes due to population growth and development in the area. The road was prone to congestion, leading to delays, reduced efficiency, and safety concerns. Also, this road posed challenges for motorists, pedestrians, cyclists due to inadequate road design and insufficient safety measures. The upgrade aims to provide improved connectivity, reduce travel times, enhance road safety, and accommodate future development and population increases.Project update
June 2026 - Design nearing completion including extension to connect existing design to the western abutment of Pokeno Rd Bridge. As the Pokeno Rd vehicle bridge is now to be retained until the end of its structural life, a timber truss pedestrian bridge will be constructed alongside the road bridge. A footpath will be designed to connect the school with the Waikaha St residential development.At a glance
