Pookeno Road Resilience - Road Upgrade from Bridge to Munro Road

Project objective

The bridge Road. to Munro resilience project is a vital infrastructure upgrade with the Pokeno Structure Plan, aimed at enhancing the resilience and functionality of the road network. The decision to upgrade this road to handle the increasing traffic volumes due to population growth and development in the area. The road was prone to congestion, leading to delays, reduced efficiency, and safety concerns. Also, this road posed challenges for motorists, pedestrians, cyclists due to inadequate road design and insufficient safety measures. The upgrade aims to provide improved connectivity, reduce travel times, enhance road safety, and accommodate future development and population increases.

Project update

June 2025 - Design, consenting & property negotiations are continuing. Once complete the project will then go on hold until funding is secured by Waka Kotahi for construction.
