Waikato District is set to benefit from more than $71,000 in Government funding to support a vibrant calendar of regional events in 2025.
The funding, announced today by Tourism and Hospitality Minister Hon Louise Upston, is part of the second round of the $5 million Regional Events Promotion Fund, which is designed to stimulate economic growth and encourage domestic tourism beyond the big cities.
Five events in the Waikato District have received funding:
Karioi Classic 2025 – $7,314
Motofest – $9,000
NextGen Motorsport Round 1 – Hampton Downs – $25,000
NextGen Motorsport Round 2 – Hampton Downs – $25,000
Raglan Country & Blues Festival 2025 – $5,350
Waikato District Council welcomes this investment in our local economy and community spirit.
“These events not only celebrate the unique character of our district but also bring visitors into our towns and rural areas, supporting local businesses, accommodation providers, and hospitality,” says Mayor Jacqui.
Minister Upston says the aim of the fund is to encourage more Kiwis to explore the country’s diverse regions, with events acting as powerful catalysts for local economic activity—particularly in quieter seasons.
Across the country, 152 events will share in a $2.6 million boost, with the Waikato District proudly represented among them.
“New Zealand is open for business,” says Minister Upston, “and we encourage both Kiwis and international visitors alike to explore and enjoy what New Zealand has to offer.”
More information on these events will be shared as they develop.
