You’re driving on smoother, safer roads this summer, and we’re delivering them ahead of schedule.
Across the district, crews have been out early, working late, and making the most of every dry window. From rural roads to main streets through our town centres, they’ve been strengthening our roads so you can get where you need to go safely.
Despite a challenging run of weather, our summer resealing and maintenance programme is tracking ahead of programme, a result we’re proud to share with our community.
“When you feel that smoother surface under your tyres, that’s months of planning and hard mahi coming together,” says Megan May, General Manager of Assets and Infrastructure.
“Our contractors — Higgins in the north and Fulton Hogan in the south — have worked at pace right across the district. They’ve adapted quickly to changing weather and kept the momentum going. That’s something worth celebrating.”
So far this summer, we’ve delivered 66.5km of road resealed of the 96.35km planned across the district. With work already completed in areas like Maramarua, Te Kauwhata, Pukekawa and more.
Every kilometre resealed protects your road from water damage. It prevents potholes. It extends the life of the surface. And it saves money in the long run by avoiding bigger rebuilds later.
This roading programme reaches across the district, from the north to the south.
No matter where you live, whether it’s rural roads, main streets through towns, or coastal roads, this work helps keep your journeys safer and more reliable.
But this summer hasn’t been straightforward.
Periods of wet and unsettled weather meant our contractors have had to change plans quickly. Resealing can’t happen in the rain. The surface must be dry so the new layer bonds properly.
When conditions changed, crews shifted locations and adjusted schedules to make the most of fine days. That flexibility is one reason we’re still ahead of programme.
“Our contractors have shown real commitment,” says Megan May.
“They’ve adapted quickly to weather changes and kept the programme moving. That’s no small task.”
We know road works can slow you down. Temporary traffic management, loose chip and detours aren’t ideal.
But by getting ahead now, we reduce the risk of more disruptive repairs later. We’re protecting your investment and building resilience into our network.
Over the coming weeks, crews will continue work in Ohinewai, Pookeno, Port Waikato, Glen Murray, Onewhero and more.
We’ll keep sharing updates on our website on the current and upcoming roadwork [insert link] so you know what’s happening near you and how it may affect your journey.
We appreciate your patience while this mahi takes place.
He waka eke noa — we are all in this together.

Programmed Reseal works for 2025/26 financial year.
