Better playgrounds on the way across the Waikato district

Four local playgrounds across the Waikato district are set for a refresh, with work getting underway from April 2026.

Waikato District Council will be renewing playgrounds at Huntly West Domain (Fraser Street), Taupiri Domain, Tauwhare Paa (Kahui Avenue, Matangi), and Riverview Road in Huntly.

Each playground will receive new, modern equipment designed to suit the local space. This includes swings, climbing and play structures with a range of activities, accessible features, and balance equipment like beams.

Some sites will also include accessible play options. Huntly West will have an accessible see-saw and carousel, donated by Hato Hone St John. Tauwhare and Riverview will include basket swings, while Taupiri will not have an accessible item as part of this renewal.

Works will roll out in stages from April, with the first sites starting early in the month. All playgrounds are expected to be completed by June, although timing may change depending on weather and construction progress.

The existing playground areas will be closed during construction. We’ll keep communities updated as each project progresses and share more detail about what’s being installed at each site.

These upgrades are funded through rates and are part of Council’s ongoing investment in local spaces that support connection, play and wellbeing.
