We are strongly encouraging the use of our online resource consent application forms as
they are designed to be user friendly and deliver a more effective and efficient consenting
process for our customers.​

Our online application platform means that you can:​

  • Apply for a resource consent from anywhere you want to
  • Submit any required further information online
  • Receive timely communications from Council
  • Track the progress of your online application.
Our online application form will guide customers through relevant questions and request that documents/information is uploaded in support of the application.  The application form has been designed to deliver a more effective and efficient consenting process.​

Document format standards for online resource consent applications​

  • Provide documentation in PDF format
  • Provide documents in black and white or grey scale to minimise file size
  • Minimise company logos to keep file sizes down
  • Create individual file size up to 300MB
  • Check documents are not locked or password-protected
  • Present drawings in landscape view.​
Document naming standards for online resource consent applications

Use the recommended naming standards when you make an online resource consent application.  The use of the naming standards will help Council process your application faster Naming Conventions

An AEE is a written statement which identifies the effects of your proposed activity or activities on the environment so we can assess the likely impact of the proposal.​

Effects on the environment that you will need to consider can be short-term or long-term, positive or negative, and may include:​

  • traffic and parking​
  • heritage or streetscape character​
  • overshadowing of properties​
  • reduction in privacy​
  • noise and vibration​
  • flooding​
  • stability of land​
  • infrastructure (capacity)​
  • people and community.​

When Council assesses a resource consent application, we consider whether people may be adversely affected by the activities proposed in the application.​

If there are people that may be affected by your consent proposal, consider getting their written approval before you lodge your online application with us. When you approach people to ask for their written approval, take a copy of the information and plans you use in the proposal for them to look over.​

It may take up to 20 working days to process your resource consent application. ​

If more information is required to support your application, Council will contact you.If we do require more information, your application will be placed on hold untilCouncil receives all further information requested. ​

Please Note: An invoice for the total processing costs of your resource consent willbe sent after you receive your consent decision. However, if your project is complexand/or the time to process the application is protracted, we may send out monthlyinvoices.​

Council recover costs for processing applications for resource consents based on thespecified hourly rate of the planners and specialists involved. You must include the relevantfee with your resource consent application as we will not commence processing your resourceconsent application until full payment is received.​

If the relevant fee is a lodgement fee (deposit) and not a set fee, and the actual cost is lessthan the lodgement fee, we will refund the difference. ​

If the actual cost exceeds the lodgement fee, which happens in most cases, we will invoiceyou for the additional costs.​

Please Note: Submitting all required information with your resource consent application willavoid further information requests that will increase the processing costs.​
