Local body elections are your chance to have your say on what's important to you, your whāanau and your community.

The people elected get to make decisions about your daily life and the future of your town and community. They set rates, oversee town planning, and make decisions on rubbish collection, roads, parks and libraries. 

How to vote

You'll receive a voting pack in the mail. If you have not received your voting pack, please contact us.

Complete your voting forms and post it back, or drop it off to a ballot box. Ballot boxes can be found at any of our offices or libraries. You can also drop it in any ballot box around the country. 

Find your nearest post shop

You will have until 12 noon on Saturday 8 October 2022 to vote.

If you are posting your papers back, these need to be in the post by Tuesday 4 October 2022 to ensure they arrive before the deadline.

Votes received after the midday, Saturday 8 October deadline will not be counted towards the final numbers for the election.

Haven't received a voting pack?

If you haven't yet enrolled to vote, you enrolled after 12 August 2022, or your voting pack is damaged or lost, you will need to cast a special vote. You can do this at any of our offices.

Who you can vote for?


This election you will be able to vote for a Mayor, Councillor and Community Board members. You will also be able to vote for Maaori ward Councillors if you are on the Maaori roll.

Also included in your voting pack will be Waikato Regional Council elections. Your pack will no longer include District Health Board elections because the boards are being replaced by a new body, Health New Zealand.

To ensure Council remains neutral throughout the elections, we will not run or endorse any candidate event. Meet the candidate events displayed on the website are held by community groups. Community groups holding an event are encouraged to get in touch with Council so these can be displayed on the website.
