Disputing a parking ticket

If you believe your parking ticket is unfair, you have 28 days to submit an appeal.

Before you start

Check you meet the requirements to appeal

  • You must have a valid reason for challenging your parking ticket
  • Your appeal must be in writing
  • We must receive your appeal on or before your payment due date

Gather your information

You will need:

  • your parking ticket notice number
  • your car registration number and vehicle make
  • personal details for the registered owner of the car
  • personal details for the driver of the car
  • (optional) photos or evidence supporting your reason for disputing the ticket

How to appeal

Fill in the online form within 28 days of receiving your notice.

  1. Download and fill in the form

    Download, print and fill in the paper form.

  2. Send your form to us

    You can:

    • deliver it in person to any of our council offices or libraries
    • scan and email it to info@waidc.govt.nz
    • post it to us with ‘ATTN Parking Warden’ written on the envelope

Important: We must receive your paper form on or before your payment due date.

What happens next

If Council sees that your reason is valid, we will cancel your parking ticket and waive the fine.

If Council declines your appeal, we will inform you and continue with the infringement process.
