Keep everyone safe and avoid parking tickets by parking correctly.
Why safe parking matters
How you park matters because parking incorrectly can:
- block the line of sight for motorists
- force pedestrians to walk around your car and into the road
- damage pipes, curbing, tree roots and soil on the road reserve
Follow these rules when parking your vehicle
No stopping or parking on broken yellow lines
Broken yellow lines on the side of the road means it is not safe to park or stop your vehicle. You will often see these lines on busy intersections and near kerbs.
No blocking vehicle entranceways
Do not park in vehicle entranceways (driveways). Make sure you park at least 1 metre away from a vehicle entranceway so that larger vehicles can enter and exit.
No parking on the berm or footpath
In most cases, it is unsafe to park on footpaths or berms (the grassy area between properties and the road). You might damage pipes and cables buried under the berm.
No parking on roads that are being resealed
If your vehicle is in the way, it can be towed. Find out more about road resealing and what you need to know.
Do not overstay time limits
If you have parked in a time-restricted spot, move your vehicle before you exceed the time limit.
Do not park without a permit
Only use designated or mobility parking spots if you have a valid permit. Remember to display your permit.
Do not park without a current WoF and rego
When you park in a public parking space, your vehicle must have a current warrant of fitness (WoF) and vehicle licence (rego).
