Your invoice now includes both your Waikato District Council rates and your IAWAI water charges.
Since 1 July 2026, water and wastewater fixed charges are no longer a Waikato District Council rate. This is because IAWAI is now responsible for providing drinking water and wastewater services to Hamilton and Waikato communities.
The rates invoice will look a bit different because the charges are now listed separately on the same invoice, but the services you receive haven’t changed. The way the charges are calculated for water and wastewater services also hasn’t changed.

How to pay
You can continue paying your invoice the same way you always have. If you already pay your rates by automatic payment, your water charges will also be paid automatically.

All fixed connection or availability charges are still part of your combined rates and water invoice/assessment within the three annual instalments. Your metered water use charge remains on your six monthly usage invoices.
