Each summer, we reseal roads across our district to keep the network safe and in good condition. You will get a letter when your road is being resealed.

Why road resealing happens in summer

Summer is the best time for us to reseal the roads. We usually reseal during the day because the warmer temperatures help with curing the seal.

We do our best to undertake the work when it causes the least disruption. This means working:

  • on weekdays only
  • not at night
  • outside peak traffic times

What to expect

While work is underway, you may see:

  • workers in high visibility vests
  • specialist machinery such as spray trucks, chip spreaders, rollers, and sweepers
  • road cones
  • stop and go traffic management
  • single lane access past worksites

Getting to your house

If we temporarily close your road for resealing, there will be temporary traffic management in place so you can still access your home.

Follow these safety guidelines

If your vehicle is parked on the road and blocks the work, it can be towed.

Follow the lower speed signs to prevent:

  • loose chips flicking up
  • the new surface sticking to your tyres
  • damaging your windscreen
  • damaging the new surface
For safety reasons, remind kids to stay away from the road and to listen to any instructions from the workers.

Bitumen is the thick, black liquid that binds new stones to the road. Fresh bitumen is very sticky and can stick to shoes, feet and paws.

To prevent bitumen damaging your home, check footwear, feet and paws before entering your property. It can be a good idea to keep pets inside until the surface has settled (usually within the day).

After the works

Workers will come back to check the new road. They may sweep up loose stones, clean the area, and paint the road lines once everything has set properly.

Keep driving carefully and follow the speed signs.
