Each summer we reseal a number of roads across our district to keep the network safe and in good condition. Resealing waterproofs and protects the road, preventing potholes, creating a smoother surface, and reducing future repair costs.

We decide which roads to reseal by considering factors like damage, age, daily traffic, and the types and weight of vehicles using them. These priorities can change as new conditions or information come up.

What you need to know

While work is underway, you may see stop/go signals or lane closures. Most resealing will take place on weekdays to reduce nighttime noise and take advantage of warmer daytime temperatures needed for curing. We’ll also do our best to avoid peak traffic times.

Please take extra care around the roadworks. The new road surface is sticky, so remind kids to stay away and listen to any instructions from the workers.

Loose chips can flick up when cars drive by, so make sure you follow the lower speed signs. It’s also a good idea to keep pets inside until the surface has settled.

For the next few days, watch out for loose chips on the road. Driving at the posted temporary speed limit will help protect your car and reduce flying stones. Also, try to keep pets and muddy shoes outside until the fresh chipseal is fully dry.

If your street is getting a new road surface, you will get a letter. Please make sure your car is not parked on the road during this time. If a car blocks the work, it may have to be towed.

Fresh bitumen is very sticky and can damage tyres, so be careful.

You will still be able to get to your home during the road works. However, you must drive very slowly so the new surface is not damaged or picked up by tyres.

Workers will come back to check the new road. They may sweep up loose stones, clean the area, and paint the road lines once everything has set properly.

Keep driving carefully and follow the speed signs.
