District and city councils are the only authorities who can allocate or change road names and property numbers.
When numbering properties, we follow standards and guidelines set out by Land Information New Zealand Toituu Te Whenua (LINZ).
When naming roads, we follow a process to make sure names are unique, clear and hold significance to our district.
Council will:
- review and approve road names
- hold consultations about renaming roads
- assign all new property numbers
- update incorrect property numbers
